Troubleshooting your configuration profile
Who is this article for?
Administrators who want to learn to troubleshoot their configuration profile.
Some elevated permissions are required.
This article explains how to troubleshoot your configuration profile when something is not working.
Configuration profiles can push out settings to selected users and groups however the settings need to be correct.
If it is not working, please run through the below steps.
Important things to consider:
Is the profile not working for everyone, or just for some people.
1. Check the correct users or groups are assigned.
When creating a configuration profile, you can apply it to certain users or groups (or everyone) as shown below.
Sometimes when applying a profile to groups, a new user may not be added to the group, so they won't get the profile.
2. Check the priority (order) of the profile is correct.
- When setting up a configuration profile, you get to choose the order or priority of the profile as shown below:
- A user can only have one configuration profile, and they will get the profile applied with the lowest priority number (for example 1) so you must check another profile is not taking precedence.
3. Check the admin site URL is correct and updated by us if you use a different format.
- Your Administration client must be connected to your admin site URL (where the configuration profiles are held)
- This is recommended to be in the format: https://your tenant name.sharepoint.com/sites/oneplacesolutions
If it is not in this format, you must inform your Customer Success Manager or the support team of your different URL so they can update this for you.
Otherwise, the configuration profiles will not work.
4. Test a visual update to ensure the profile is getting applied.
Configuration profiles are very easy to test if they are being applied, you can change a visual setting (like a button text) to confirm if this applies.
There are instructions below to do this:
- in the admin client open your configuration profile.
- temporarily change a piece of text on a button as shown below.
- Then save pending changes for the configuration profile
- Go to your OnePlace Mail > Settings > Connected services and refresh the configuration profile as shown below:
- You should now get the updated change, to confirm that your profile is applying.
