Configuring SharePoint column mapping
Who is this article for?
Administrators who want to learn to configure SharePoint column mapping.
SharePoint elevated permissions are required.
This article explains how to configure SharePoint custom column mapping to capture email attributes when using pre-existing SharePoint columns.
1. Custom column mapping
By default, Ideagen Mail Manager Enterprise (formerly OnePlace) automatically captures email attributes (e.g., To, From, Subject) and populates associated SharePoint columns when relevant site columns exist in a document library.
If you're already capturing email attributes in SharePoint and want to continue using those libraries, you can map Ideagen Mail Manager Enterprise (formerly OnePlace) column names to your existing SharePoint columns using custom column mapping.
Note: If you do not have an existing email content type, you’ll need to create the required site columns first.
2. Steps to set up custom column mapping
- Create a list in SharePoint to serve as the central column mapping list.
- Add the columns to be mapped.
- Connect the list to Mail Manager Enterprise desktop and Mail Manager Enterprise Docs via a configuration profile.
2.1. Create the central column mapping list
- Select a SharePoint site where the list will be created. All Ideagen Mail Manager enterprise users must have read access to this list.
- Navigate to the site and go to Site Contents New App.
- Select Custom List, name it as desired, and click Create.
2.2. Add required columns
- Create a column named From Column (case-sensitive). Set Require that this column contains information to Yes.
- Create a column named To Column (case-sensitive). Set Require that this column contains information to Yes.
- Edit the default Title column and rename it to Scope.
2.3. Populate the list
- Enter Ideagen Mail Manager Enterprise column names in the From Column.
- Enter your existing SharePoint column names in the To Column.
- Set the Scope value to
Globalfor all rows.
Once the list is complete, copy its URL. This URL must be added to Ideagen Mail Manager Enterprise settings.
2.4. Deployment options
- Recommended: For central deployment or use with the Ideagen Mail Manager Enterprise Web App, set the URL in the configuration profile using the Mail Manager Enterprise administration client under Column mapping.
- Single desktop client: Set the URL manually via Settings Content Capture in Ideagen Mail Manager Enterprise (formerly OnePlace).
