This article explains how to create and configure a shortcut item to surface a static SharePoint location for end users.
1. Shortcut location item
The shortcut item allows you to define a static link to a specific location within SharePoint. This can include a site collection, site, library, list, folder, or document set.
Use this option when your organization wants to deliver a predefined location directly to users.
2. Create a shortcut item
- Select Shortcut.
- Drill down to select the desired location (site, library, list, folder, or document set).
- Select Add.
- Select OK to confirm.
3. Target a specific view
In document libraries, multiple views may exist to return specific subsets of content. You can configure the shortcut to return a specific view:
- Create a shortcut to the document library.
- In the Target View dropdown, select the desired view.
When users select this item, the specified view will be displayed.
4. Modify default settings
When adding a shortcut location, you can define specific behaviors for how the shortcut operates. These settings allow further customization of the user experience.
