Using authentication on Desktop

This article explains how authentication works and how users can access SharePoint environments securely.
1. Access permissions
Applications cannot access any SharePoint location that the user does not have permissions to.
2. SharePoint online
When modern authentication is enabled in the 365 tenants, users will be authenticated using this method.
Modern authentication supports accessing multiple SharePoint tenants.
2.1. Accepting permissions
The global administrator can accept permissions on behalf of the organization by selecting the check box in the dialog box presented.
2.2. Signing out of a tenant
To sign out for a specific tenant, right click on the site collection under 'SharePoint' and select 'sign out'.
3. SharePoint on-premises
Desktop applications support claims-based authentication for SharePoint on-premises environments.
