Removing IE warning when using email as attachment
Who is this article for?Users who want to stop alerts when using the email attachment feature.
Local Admin permissions are required.
In order to use the advanced functionality provided by the email as attachment feature in your SharePoint document libraries, a small change to the default Internet Explorer security settings is required. This article will walk you through how to configure this.
1. Add Trusted Site
Use this process if you are experiencing the following message when using the email as attachment functionality. This feature is only supported under Internet Explorer and may not function correctly under other web browsers.
To check if SharePoint is trusted:
- Open your SharePoint site in Internet Explorer.
- Right-click on part of the web page that doesn't contain any links or images.
- Select Properties from the context menu.
This will display the security zone on the properties window.
- Check if the zone is listed as "Local Intranet" or "Trusted Sites".
If so, your SharePoint site is trusted and you can skip to step 11.
If not, your SharePoint site is not trusted and you should continue with the next step. - Select Tools, then Internet Options.
- Switch to the "Security" tab.
- Highlight Trusted sites.
- Click the Sites... button.
- Add the URL of your SharePoint site.
- Click the Add button, then Close.
If you are accessing a https:// site, add both the https:// and http:// url to the trusted zone.
- With the Trusted sites icon selected, click the Custom Level... button.
- Scroll down through the options to find "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe".
- Choose Enable.
- Click OK.
To make sure the option is applied correctly, close all Internet Explorer windows. The next time you open your SharePoint site, the email as attachment features should function correctly.
2. Set Group Policies
The above settings can also be implemented using Group Policies. Settings that are associated with policies will take precedence over settings specified using Internet Explorer preferences.
The precedence order is:
- Machine Policies
- User Policies
- User Preferences
- Machine Preferences
Below are links to the Group Policies for the supported browsers.
