This article explains how to configure the email tracking service to provide visibility across the enterprise for emails saved to SharePoint.
1. Email tracking service
Email tracking extends the use of EnterpriseMail by allowing users to see which emails have already been saved to SharePoint. Saved emails are marked with a Transferred to SharePoint category in Outlook.
2. Supported environments
- Exchange Online (Office 365)
- Exchange 2013 or above (on-premises)
3. Prerequisites – Exchange Online
- Azure subscription
- Network connectivity to Exchange Online
- No Windows Server required
4. Prerequisites – Exchange On-Premises
- Windows Server 2012 or above
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 or higher
- Network connectivity to Exchange 2013 or 2016
5. Deployment notes
- For on-premises Exchange, the tracking service must be installed on a single server (no load balancing).
- If geographic distribution is needed, the service can be installed on separate servers, each connected to a different service mailbox.
- Client machines can be configured to send transaction emails to the appropriate mailbox based on region or setup.
